I was among the privileged few to board Emirates Airlines’ inaugural flight from Madagascar to the Seychelles on September 3rd, 2024. The route opens a whole new world of possibilities for travellers. This is more than a milestone; it is almost like a bridge between two beautiful island nations that have not seen a direct flight in many years, a bridge ushering in prospects of trade and tourism.

Opening Seamless Adventures in the Indian Ocean
This is heaven-sent when I work in Madagascar and have my home and family in the Seychelles. I have travelled between the Indian Ocean Islands many times over many years, but I couldn’t tell you how much of a game-changer this new direct flight is—especially with Emirates, known for its world-class service. This four-times-a-week service promises convenience for leisure seekers and business professionals alike.

From the white-sand beaches of the Seychelles to the exotic wildlife in Madagascar, it is now easier to see both islands. For the first time, this direct linking of tropical gems saves you from the tedium of waiting and, hence, all other inconveniences.
Smooth and Luxurious Journey
The inaugural flight, EK707, took off from Seychelles International Airport at 14h15, and landed at Ivato International Airport, Antananarivo, after two hours and 45 minutes. On the return leg, we boarded the plane from Ivato International Airport, a few minutes behind the 17:40 schedule. This is because, I presume, the Emirates Airlines’ big guns hosted a function of dignitaries in Antananarivo for the occasion.

It felt like I was in for a treat right from the moment I boarded. Anyone who has flown Emirates would realize flying is not necessarily about getting from one destination to another; it is about comfort, luxury, and unlocking unique experiences. As I got on board and settled into my seat, I was greeted with Emirates’ signature warm service.
Entertainment and Comfort
The flight is operated by a Boeing 777-300ER. The aircraft has a three-class configuration. It features eight private suites in the First Class, 42 lie-flat seats in Business Cladd and 310 seats in the Economy Class.
The cabin crew was attentive, making sure that everyone was comfortable and had what they needed. In addition, the crew making the announcements on the PA system has a similar accent as mine, and I suspect being a compatriot (unfortunately, I did not have a chance to talk to her).

As we cruised towards the Seychelles, I could not help but notice the little things that Emirates inevitably gets right: noise-cancelling headphones make it easy to get into a movie, while the seat-back touchscreen is intuitive and responsive. Even in Economy Class, the legroom is generous; you always feel energized.
Spacious seating and highly technologically advanced entertainment allowed time to pass quickly. With a wide selection of movies, television serials, and music, it felt like your personalized theatre in the sky rather than flying. Further, Emirates offers onboard WI-FI, allowing passengers to stay connected, share updates with friends, or simply catch up on work.

Onboard Dining: A Gourmet Delight

Then, of course, there was the in-flight meal, and Emirates does know how to put on a feast at 35,000 feet. An array of mouthwatering international cuisine was on the menu to suit every taste and preference. I chose chicken biryani, which was marinated in aromatic spices and slow-cooked with rice garnished with raisins and coriander. Chicken biryani is one of my favourite dishes. But this serving was one of the best. I could taste all the spices individually and as they subsequently blended into a heavenly delight. Food on board is one thing I like about Emirates; it is almost like dining in a restaurant but in the sky.

Seychelles and Madagascar: A New Era of Travel
Emirates has made my dream come true, like many others, with a nonstop link between the Seychelles and Madagascar. This four-times-a-week service will open floodgates for leisure travellers and business executives. It is not only a matter of convenience but also experience, service, and luxury that Emirates brings along with its flights.
This is more than just a flight for business travellers; it’s a strategic gateway. The route opens floodgates for increased commercial opportunities between the islands, be it tourism, trade, or investment. This flight makes accessibility between the Seychelles and Madagascar like never before. It’s about strengthening regional ties and growing economic muscle, and not all about tourism.
